Thinking of a short break to Italy? Why not try the beautiful city of Bergamo, with its own airport it is easy to get a flight from several UK airports.

Bergamo is an Italian city northeast of Milan, in the Lombardy region, and dates from 49 BC.

Its older upper district, called Città Alta, is characterized by cobblestone streets, encircled by Venetian walls and accessible by funicular. It's home to the Duomo di Bergamo, the city cathedral. Also here are the Romanesque Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore and the grand Cappella Colleoni, a chapel with 18th-century frescoes by Tiepolo.

The lower part of the City called Bassa still has great architecture but is more modern and has the  shopping district.

Milan is just a 50 minutes drive by car or you can take a train or a bus. Packed with Fashion History and Art as well as great restaurants and Shopping.

If you fancy a trip to the lakes the nearest is just 31kilometres which is the picturesque Lake Iseo it's the Gem of Northern Italy . Lake Como is only 47 kilometres away followed by Lake Como at 79 kilometres all of them are easy to get to by Train Bus or Car and are great for Day visits or even an overnight stay.
