PRICE INCREASE IN NEW PASSPORTS
The Government has announced an increase in the cost of new passports , which will see an online standard UK adult application rise to more than £100 for the first time.
A standard UK adult passport applied for online will increase by 8% from 8 April, from £94.50 to £102. A child’s passport applied for online will rise from £61.50 to £66.50.
Postal applications will go up from £107 to £115.50 for adults, and from £74 to £80 for children. The one-day Premium Service application for adults made within the UK will increase from £222 to £239.50.
The Government said the money ‘will help the Home Office to continue to move towards a system that meets its costs through those who use it, reducing reliance on funding from general taxation’.
Next price hike follows increases of 7% in each of the last two years, and 9% in 2023.
Entry/Exit System (EES).
UK citizens traveling to the EU must use the digital Entry/Exit System (EES). First-time registration requires submitting fingerprints and a facial photo at border kiosks. This digital record replaces manual passport stamping and tracks the 90/180-day rule. Travelers face longer queues, as the new system is currently causing major delays at peak transit points.
This record remains valid for three years. Children under 12 must have a photo taken but are exempt from fingerprinting
Travel insurance!!
Why you need travel insurance?
Travel insurance is important. It provides protection and coverage for unexpected events that can happen on holiday. Travel insurance can cover a range of scenarios, such as :-
Medical emergencies and repatriation - Lost or stolen baggage - Trip cancellations or interruptions - Natural disasters
You must purchase cover that is appropriate for your travel plans. Travelling without the right cover can be very expensive if things do go wrong while you are abroad. If you buy a basic policy that does not provide enough medical coverage, you may get a big bill if you have an unexpected health issue on holiday. Or it could be that you buy a policy that does not cover your planned holiday activities – such as water sports or quad biking – or it could be that your policy doesn’t cover cancellations or delays. If you’re injured doing activities, or your trip is disrupted, you may have a big bill to pay.
